About the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
Alejandra Segura, President of the International Network of Catholic Women Leaders
Today, August 15, we celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into heaven, crowned Queen and Mother of all humanity. On this day, we remember that our maternal vocation—biological, spiritual, and social—is a reflection of Mary's heart, which cares for and accompanies all men and women. Following the teaching I heard yesterday in the homily at Mass, I would like to share a reflection with you: our Holy Mother, the Virgin Mary, ascended into heaven body and soul. That is, with all her human senses intact. And from Heaven, she sees us, listens to us, hears us, knows us, and feels us. She cares for us because she is present with us in every way. This is true leadership: learning from Mary and, at the same time, being leaders means for us replicating Mary's Yes, which was an intelligent Yes, rooted in Faith. We are all called to be leaders, but let us ask ourselves: Do we say Yes to that leadership? We must put our gifts at the service of all. Leadership begins with that replication of Mary's Yes in each of us for our families, communities, and the world. Mary was and is a leader. She guides all humanity from heaven with the tenderness of a mother and the firmness of one who fully trusts in God. What more perfect model of leadership could we have than our beloved Mother, who with humility and courage always leads us to her Son? Let us also ask our guardian angel to watch over not only our children, but also all those God has placed under our spiritual and social care. Just as Mary intercedes and watches over us, our guardian angel can protect and present to God everything we have experienced that day. May Our Lady of the Assumption inspire us to live a motherhood filled with tenderness, strength, and dedication, always trusting in the care of our angels and in the intercession of our Mother in heaven.
